Press Release: The Well Teacher Book Launch
humanworks press is celebrating the official launch of its first book, The Well Teacher: Everything Teachers Need to Know to Be Well and Stay Well in the Classroom, on January 15th, 2019.
VANCOUVER, December 19, 2018 – Teaching is arguably one of the most important and rewarding jobs there is. It is also one of the most demanding and most stressful. According to a UK study, teachers ranked second worst in psychological well-being, behind only paramedics. Police officers, social service providers, nurses, prison officers, and firefighters all ranked higher in psychological well-being than teachers. Teachers also experience physical health conditions such as MS, chronic pain, and cancer. Add this to challenges associated with workload, class size, composition, and curriculum, as well as emerging trends such as social media, and teachers face greater challenges to their wellness than ever before. This, in turn, affects the education system as a whole. Teachers are leaving the profession, accessing the disability system, calling in sick, or working while feeling burnt out, without comprehensive resources to assist them to improve their wellness and access the right supports.
Between 4 p.m and 8 p.m, on Tuesday, January 15, 2019, humanworks press invites members of the education community and media to join us at our office to celebrate the launch of The Well Teacher, a new resource that was created specifically to respond to the unique set of wellness challenges teachers experience in the profession. Refreshments and light snacks will be served throughout the evening. At 6 p.m., author, Wade Repta, BHSc., OT, will deliver a brief introduction to the book as well as a hold a short Q&A session, where he looks forward to engaging in dialogue on topics ranging from how teachers can enhance their own individual wellness to the idea that well teachers = well classrooms. Wade has worked with teachers and others in the education system for almost 20 years and is an expert on teacher wellness and the impacts well teachers have on schools. Please join us and be part of the movement to support well teachers in our community.
